Verslag Omroep West balkon gym Albrandswaard
‘Hoofd, schouders, knie en teen’ en ‘Let’s twist again’… in Zoetermeer wordt geswingd op de balkons van de ouderenflats van de Albrandswaard. De fysiotherapeuten van fysiotherapie Meerzicht geven twee keer per week bewegingsles vanuit de centrale tuin en op de parkeerplaats. Een heel groot deel van de ouderen doet mee om aan hun dagelijkse beweging te komen.

Klassiekers
Er wordt niet gedanst op de nieuwste hits, maar juist op klassiekers als Let’s Twist Again en Great Balls of Fire. Vooral bij de oude rock & roll platen zie je de twinkeling in de ogen van de balkondansers. ‘Het is een fantastisch gezicht met al die mensen op de balkons, en ook fantastisch dat onze fysiotherapeuten dit doen’, aldus een van de bewoners van Albrandswaard.

Oefeningen
De fysiotherapeuten werken vaker met de bewoners, maar het is wel even een andere aanpak dan normaal. Het gewone werk van de fysiotherapeuten is voor een groot deel stilgevallen. Veel gaat telefonisch en een enkeling kan nog langskomen, maar de meeste mensen kunnen nu niet hun belangrijke oefeningen doen.

Spierkracht
Fysiotherapeut Martin Vermeulen maakt zich zorgen om de ouderen die niet meer in beweging komen. ‘Als je 15 dagen niet uit je bed of stoel komt, verlies je 10 tot 15 procent van je spierkracht en dat krijg je niet zo maar terug. Op deze manier hebben de ouderen in ieder geval twee keer per week een half uur beweging.’

Dansen vanaf eigen balkon
De bewoners kunnen vanaf hun eigen balkon mee dansen, of vanuit de tuin. Dan natuurlijk wel op anderhalve meter afstand van de andere bewoners. En als de workout voorbij is moeten de ouderen wel even bijkomen. ‘Maar dat is logisch, want ik zit bijna de hele dag op mijn kont’, zegt een mevrouw die ondersteund wordt door haar rollator. En dan is het afwachten tot de volgende balkonsessie.
